“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”
Unknown
My ethos is built upon the following things:
-
I like to work with people who are positive, passionate, and creative
I can be demanding but I work hard to practice empathy and kindness
Sometimes I get in “work mode” and become hyper focused and serious, other times I can be goofy. Overall, I like to get stuff done while also having fun
I like to talk about solutions and possibilities. I get excited about the future and “what can be”
I value my time and work hard to plan out my schedule in advance, while building in space to accommodate the unexpected
I like to make decisions and move fast
I seek wisdom and appreciate candid feedback so I can grow
I like to push the limits, achieving things people think are impossible
I like to combine data, experience, and intuition when making decisions
-
People who are hungry, humble and teachable
People over things
A group of people working on a cause greater than themselves
Data to support decision making
Organizational structure
Learning and growth
People who take pride in their work and have an appreciation for quality
Results over effort
Relationships that are meaningful and built on trust
Commitment and heart
Addressing issues head on and then showing forgiveness and grace to move forward successfully
Curiosity and adventure
Quality time and flexibility. I figure out ways to get stuff done and am not constrained by set working hours or location
Travel, I have a goal to visit 50 countries by 50 years old. I have ice cream or gelato in every country that I visit
Free cash flow
-
A lack of follow through
Personal attacks, back biting, gossiping. Putting people down to elevate oneself
Aggressive behavior, yelling, profanity directed towards me or others
Jockeying for perceived power or prestige
Laziness and sloppy work
Dogma, “know-it-all” type behavior
Arrogance
Wasting time

Be direct, but kind (if possible)
Pick up the phone or come see me if there is something to discuss. I’m not a big fan of email but I do understand its use case at times
Send emails that are short, concise, and explain exactly what you need (is it for information purposes, do you need a decision made by Friday at 5pm, etc.)
Send an agenda and follow up with a recap of discussion points if follow up is needed
Batch questions instead of asking me one off things every few hours
Clearly state your intentions (the purpose of the meeting, or what you need) upfront, instead of burying it or waiting until the end
I like to ask questions and I appreciate when people reciprocate the same
When having a tough conversation, acknowledgement and validation is important for me
I like to walk and talk or be outdoors
I have a long commute so talking while I’m driving is a great way to connect with me
I am sharpest and most energized in the morning
-
Remind me to take a break and get up and walk around if I stay held up in my office for too long
Give me candid feedback, in the moment if possible, so I can course correct and improve
Share strategic and business information so I can see the entire picture
If I am short in my responses or become frustrated, ask me to slow down and take a few moments to breath and reset
Show me grace when it’s merited. I like to make decisions and act. If I mess up, reassure me that it’s OK and we’ll keep moving forward
-
I have low brows, don’t mistake my closed face for being angry or upset
I am not anti-social and even though I don’t drink, I can still enjoy a good happy hour (assuming I have a bubble water-ha). I have a very tight schedule with work and two young children, but I will always make time for people
I am direct and demanding at times, but never take this personal--I just like to get stuff done and achieve meaningful results
